Tips & tools for parents and tutors
Book of Drum Stars is a launchpad built to thrive with guidence. Whether you’re a parent guiding at home or a tutor running lessons, these pages make drumming fun, flexible, and real.
how the books work
• Sticking choices are intentionally flexible:
No fixed left/right patterns are prescribed—tutors/parents decide what’s best (e.g., start with dominant hand, alternate for balance, or adapt for left-handers) to suit the student’s comfort and progress.
• Customise rudiments implementation:
Use the book’s rhythms as the foundation, then layer in singles, doubles, paradiddles, or flams with your preferred sticking—teach them slowly, say patterns aloud (“right-left-right-left”), or mirror them first for easy copying.
• Adapt for the child:
Adjust speed, volume, or focus based on age/energy (e.g., slower for younger kids, add dynamics for older ones)—the books’ open design lets you personalize without rigid rules.
• Start super simple—no kit needed:
Use practice pads or low-volume setups (e.g. tables, boxes, pans, pillows) at home—helps maintain enthusiasm without noise complaints!
• Celebrate every win:
Pair ‘Level Up’ progress with verbal praise, or small rewards—positive reinforcement makes practice feel like progress, not work!
